Finding Tokyo’s Best Mochi

I saw some mochi in the shops surrounding Asakusa temple and made a B line. Unfortunately, this was just regular red bean mochi that had very cute pink food coloring and an ok strawberry on top. It tasted good, but I would not repurchase.

Just a few stalls down they had a better strawberry mochi for 100 more yen (about 63 more cents at the current exchange rate). This one was freshly made, fluffy, and it had a a sweeter strawberry inside. But I’ve still had better in the past.

Now this is for the real mochi lovers!

Benzaiten is a daifuku chain in Japan that is worth the hype. Of course they had the classic strawberry mochi but we wanted to try some different flavors!

We ended up trying peach and melon. The fruit for both items were so fresh and sweet while the mochi was really light and pillowy. I felt like this was an experience, that I could only have in Japan!

This place is a MUST TRY! In my opinion it is Tokyo’s best mochi.

Pretty sure this is Mochi… A foodie’s paradise in Japan is the bottom of most department stores. We went to the famous Mitsukoshi Department Store and found these beautiful shine muscat grape mochi’s! The brand is called Kyorakudo and they offer various elevated Japanese desserts.

Although my picture doesn’t do it justice these were amazing! Each large shine muscat grape was individually wrapped with a thin almost cystal like layer of mochi and sugar. An just WOW! The crisp fresh grape with the sweet crisp outside layer was out of this world! It can be even taken back as souvenirs! Unfortunately, it does expire in one week.
